Filament Health is pointing out the difference between natural psychedelics vs synthetic ones, so if you are interested in psychedelics and how they potentially may be used to treat health issues, you’ll want to listen to this podcast.
In this episode of Causes or Cures, I sit down with Benjamin Lightburn, CEO of Filament Health, to explore the key differences between natural and synthetic psychedelics—and why those differences matter. Ben breaks down how Filament Health develops its natural psychedelic medicines, shares insights from ongoing clinical trials with top academic institutions, and discusses the early results. He also explains how Filament plans to bring these treatments to market and what sets them apart in the rapidly growing psychedelic space.
Ben is a pioneer in natural drug development, having co-founded Filament Health to create the first-ever safe, naturally derived psychedelic medicines for conditions like substance use disorder. With 15 clinical trials underway across North America and Europe and a business now valued at $210M, Filament is making waves in the industry. Before this, Ben built and sold a successful natural extraction startup, Mazza Innovation, securing major deals with multinationals before its $26M acquisition.
Tune in here for a fascinating deep dive into the future of psychedelics—where nature meets science! :)

Also, I’ve been working on my Youtube channel. It was shadow-banned for a while because of, well, I hired a guy to help boost traffic and he ended up switching out my videos with copyrighted Indian soap operas to build engagement…turned into a lovely little nightmare, albeit humorous. I was getting hate mail about what the soap opera characters did and not posting new episodes in time. That said, if you are on Youtube and like health tidbits that I curate/make and think are beneficial for your health, on any income, please check it out here!

I’ve done them all at one point or another. I by far choose the natural over the synthetic. I only consume natural now, and it’s usually only once or twice a year. Synthetic psychedelics I find are too much of a commitment and they are too unpredictable. The only synthetic one I’ll even consider touching is MDMA and that’s because I genuinely feel that there isn’t a substance on Earth that induces holistic empathy quite like that one. I believe that if the whole world were to be simultaneously dosed with pure MDMA, it would be the closest to world peace we’d ever experience. The trouble is sourcing it. When I was in college, a pharm D friend had a hobby lab, and synthesized some of the cleanest MDx compounds. The good old days. Not that way anymore. Most of it is fentanyl or cathinones. I’m good.
