With 2022 barrelling towards us at rocket speed, you’ve probably had your resolutions on your mind. COVID-19 has made us all a little more conscious about our health, and so it’s only natural that you’d want to start taking better care of yourself in the new year.
We all know what we need to do: eat better, work out more, prioritise sleep and hit our H2O goals every day. But the real question is how do we do this? If healthy habits were easy to build, everyone would be fit and feeling their best all year long. Here are a few tips on how to start your habits and keep them going long past January 31st.
Invest in Yourself
Your health is an investment, not an expense, and you should start treating it that way in the new year. Spending some money on things that will help you to feel good and live your best life is a good place to be putting your income. For example, you might want to check out this home rowing machine, reviewed, or sign up for weekly yoga classes with a friend.
Spending money on a gym membership, a workout app or at-home workout equipment might be the push you need to actually commit to daily exercise. Decide on what type of exercise will suit you best and decide where you need to be spending.
You could also invest more of your time into cooking healthy, nutritious meals instead of opting for cheaper and more convenient ready-made options or takeout. Learning some delicious healthy recipes is a great way to keep yourself on track.
Set Specific Goals
Most resolutions fail because they’re not specific enough. It’s easy to say you’ll commit to eating healthier or working out – but what does that really mean to you?
Try to set goals that sound more like “I will eat 5 servings of veggies every day”, “I will spend one hour of my day exercising at the gym, three days a week”, or “I will drink 8 glasses of water daily”. The more specific your goals are, the more easily you’ll be able to hold yourself accountable to them.
Writing down your goals somewhere that you can see them every day is also a good way to keep them at the forefront of your mind and keep you on track.
Track Your Habits
Doing a good job at something we set out to do can be incredibly motivating. It’s proof that you can accomplish what you set out to do and this will push you to keep going even when times are tough!
Setting up some way to track your healthy habits will help hold you accountable and see if you’re on track or not. You could download a habit tracking app, print out a premade habit tracker or even simply write down your daily habits in a notebook. There is immense value in habit tracking if you’re looking to improve yourself in any way.
